Pieces of Me

Hi…
I’m Sophie… and i always have the hardest time talking about myself.
I’m European (from France exactly), living in California, United States.
I speak French, English, understand Spanish pretty well, and know some Tahitian (because i have had the chance to live a few years on these beautiful islands).
I miss my grandfather every single day of my life, he was both a mother and a father to me. I have the best sister in the world, her name is Elodie and i love her with all my heart.
I daydream a lot, and i can say very random things.
I have a BA in Humanities from France.
I don’t think education is synonym of intelligence.
I’ve been taking photographs since the age of 8 when my mom gave me my first camera.. Later on, i stole my dad’s Polaroid camera (which i LOVED)..but as time passed and technologies developed i started using digital… Now, i mostly shoot with a Nikon D90; however, i love film as well, especially the processing part in the darkroom… Lately, i’ve been experimenting with the Holga 120FN, which i find pretty fun to play with.
I’m not as good with Photoshop as i would love to, but i’m learning.
I am not really shy but i’m pretty reserved.
I can’t stand lies and ignorance.
I LOVE to dance and i’m quite good.
I don’t do any type of drugs, and have no attraction for it.
I am a bit disorganized but always manage to get everything done on time.
My closet is a disaster area.
Patience is definitely not one of my virtues.
I am ambitious and insanely perfectionist (hence, rarely satisfied with anything i do). I’m quite demanding too, but more with myself than anyone else.
I am faithful in love relationships as well as in friendships.
I grew up in the countryside but i love big cities.
What i love the most about the beach is the smell of the ocean.
I don’t fall in love easily but when i do, i fall really hard.
I hate to plan my life in advance which most people don’t understand. I find it way more enjoyable that way as i am always happily surprised.
When i was 6, i wanted to be a painter; even though i am not the most fabulous one, it makes me happy, so i still paint.
When i was 12, i wanted to act and i have been on stage several times, though i have the worst stage fright one can imagine. I’ve been taking acting classes here, and i still may decide to give it a try for real in the future.
I love to write but i rarely ever let anyone read anything. Inside a suitcase that i carry everywhere in the world with me, i have close to 50 journals filled with thoughts, drawings, paintings, collages, poems, photos… And, even though, i had started these journals before discovering him, one of the persons who has inspired me the most is Dan Eldon.
When i dream, i dream in English, and when i see things in the street, i imagine them framed as through a camera lens. I’ve been trying not to do that all the time, but it just beyond my control.
I am a little bit hypochondriac and it really annoys me.
I rarely ever feel bored.
Sometimes i go for long walks under the rain because it clears my mind.
I love to travel, in fact it’s one of my favorite things to do… on top of my list of places to visit are Indonesia, Thailand, India, Kenya, Tanzania, Chile… and everywhere else actually.
I am not religious, but i’m spiritual and enjoy meditation.
I am not materialistic but owning books is my sin. I buy more books than i buy anything else, and even though it can take a very long time before i read them, i usually always end up doing it. One of my favorite books ever is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Oh and i hate lending my books, because as Anatole France said: “Never lend books, for no one ever returns them; the only books i have in my library are books that other folks have lent me.” – and yes i have experienced this several times.
Besides for the news, i rarely watch TV – but i love going to the movies and i know every episode of Sex & the City by heart.
I love music and couldn’t imagine my life without it, i have very eclectic tastes from Blues, Jazz, Country, Dance, Hip-Hop, Rap etc… i don’t like Metal though.
My favorite entertainer ever is Madonna.
I am art-obsessed and i try to create something every day… it can really be anything. No matter what lays in my hands, i will try to turn it into something different at some point.
Integrity is for me one of the most important qualities.
I love artistic people.
I love open-minded people.
I love people who inspire me and it deeply touches me when someone tells me i inspire them as well.
I love people who genuinely care about others and i’m grateful to know quite a few of those.
I really believe that each individual can help improve the life of another person, and i hope to be truly helpful to at least one person in my lifetime.
Overall, i’m grateful for life and usually say a silent “thank you” every day for it.

How wonderful. I know this site will be filled with love and hope and of course the most beautiful photos and thoughts. Can’t wait to see more.
Andy

I am so glad this vacation was so good for your soul…that’s what it’s all about.Sometimes Blogger relaly sucks. I need to make a backup disc of my blog posts before Bloggers eats my whole blog someday. Have you done that? I have so many posts about the kids that I don’t want to lose…A vacation pill? Now that’s a great idea!

Dear Sophie, As always it is a joy with warmth when I see anything from you. You are an example of love and life. Your pics are beautiful and thoughtful. Your heart is open and loving. Yea, I guess you could say I am a fan. Bravo Bravo to you. Well this Saturday, I am driving Naomi and Olivia to Alexandria VA to start the hands on process required to schedule the details for the bones event in June. They will live there until the event. Please offer me some light and prayers for our journey. I hope this finds you well. For someone I have never met, you are a bright beam of light to me. My cyber adopted daughter. Andy

Yes, I identify with Steiner’s thoghuts that you have quoted. I have always found time and simultaneous planes of time a difficult concept to grasp. However, I like to think that these simultaneous planes exist and that lives that depart a particular axis continue on in another axis. Through life, death and after. I also try to seek comfort in this line of reasoning when confronted with horrific news happening in real time here or elsewhere.

Thank you so much for this post as it is an insight into what makes you tick.
As I assumed, it is a wonderful insight.:)
I find myself in many of your statements.”I am faithful in love relationships as well as in friendships.”, “I don’t fall in love easily but when i do, i fall really hard.”,”
I hate to plan my life in advance which most people don’t understand. I find it way more enjoyable that way as i am always happily surprised.”and many others.
Also, you are one of the people that inspire me and I am greatful for you as a whole (your talent, modesty, beauty, generosity, kindness, wittyness…and the list could go on and on)…and the thing is, I find you to have been truly helpful to me in a time of great need. Thank you.
I do wish you’d let us read the stuff you write, I’m quite sure it’s amazing:). Way to go Soph, I love your blog.

“I’m done!”, I’d be a rich woman! lol You’ll get through it, it shudlon’t take too much longer. Usually around the age of 2 or so. (closer to the or so, lol. )The bad thing about when this miracle time occurs? This means you begin to forget the last 2 years of hectic, sleeplessness and you go and say,….”Oh, I think I’d like to have another child now!” SUCKER! lol
